Program Overview
The Project Management Certificate Program is a structured sequence of courses that prepare you for a career in the planning and business fields. It is designed for managers and supervisors involved in engineering, research and development, data processing, construction, facilities management, manufacturing, corporate planning, finance, and marketing. All classes are taught by practicing professionals who have prestigious certifications, subject expertise, and a wealth of real-world experience, ensuring you’ll learn important, hands-on lessons.
A digital badge will be awarded upon completion. Badges can be digitally displayed anywhere to recognize attaining a new level of knowledge.
The Pennsylvania State University is a Project Management Institute (PMI)® Authorized Training Partner (A.T.P.), who are committed to enhancing the ongoing professional development of both current and future PMI Members, PMI-certified Project Management Professionals (PMP)®, and other project management stakeholders. We also offer Project Management Supplemental topics.
Program Scope and Sequence
Each project management course is approved by the Project Management Institute (PMI) to receive one Professional Development Unit (PDU) for each contact hour (21 PDUs per course). PDUs are necessary for individuals who wish to apply to and take the Project Management Professional (PMP) Exam.
A Penn State Great Valley certificate is awarded upon completion of the four required courses. Courses MUST be taken in sequence and CANNOT be taken concurrently.

This program is specifically designed for people looking to gain more information in the project management field. Our program is designed for a mix of individuals who may be on the path to becoming a project manager, those new to the field, and those who are tenured project managers already involved in projects.
Our students work in a variety of fields, including engineering, research and development, data processing, construction, facilities management, manufacturing, corporate planning, finance, and marketing.
PJMGT 5000: Project Initiation and Planning
Introduction to project management – the role of the project manager, project communications, and project leadership as well as the planning process including objectives, scope, and success criteria. The first of four courses required for the Certificate in Project Management.
PJMGT 5001: Project Scheduling and Integration
The Work Breakdown Structure, Project Schedule, PERT/GANTT/CPM methods, and Project Integration. The second of four courses required for the Certificate in Project Management. Prerequisite: Project Initiation and Planning.
PJMGT 5002: Project Costing and Control
Continues the Project Cycle and introduces selection criteria, procurement, cost estimating, and control mechanisms. The third of four courses required for the Certificate in Project Management. Prerequisite: Project Initiation and Planning, and Project Scheduling and Integration.
PJMGT 5003: Project Risk and Change Management
The fourth of four required courses introduces risk and change management, team conflicts, quality, ethics, and closeout. Prerequisite: Project Initiation and Planning, Project Scheduling and Integration, and Project Costing and Control.
Continuing Education Units
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are awarded based on a standard of one unit per ten (10) hours of classroom contact.

Cancellations and refunds
Payment is due upon registration. Students may request a registration cancellation through the start date of the course. A $25 cancellation fee will apply. No refunds will be given for withdrawal requests after the course start date. The University reserves the right to cancel course selections. If the course is cancelled, the student will be issued a full refund.
